Writing the Script

It seemed that writing a 1920s script was much harder than I had thought. Therefore, I decided to find out some research on the language that they used in this time. I had found the below video on YouTube and had discovered exactly what I wanted the background story to be. The video helped me to think of an enigma and categorise why the femme fatale had killed her lover. The background story will be the anti-hero being a Private Detector and the femme fatale had tried to win him over to take her case: her sister in law had gone missing with her husbands money. Whilst the Private Detector and the femme fatale are working together on the case the femme fatale falls deeply in love with him, despite having a very rich gangster husband. She cried out for the Detective and they have a passionate affair. Although it seems the Detective uncovers some mystery to the femme fatales unclear story and does not want to be with her anymore. Revealing this, the femme fatale becomes jealous in anger and strikes him down, as she believes if she cannot have his love nobody can.

Difficulties

As some of you already know I have been having problems uploading Movie Maker films into Vimeo, thus not being able to add to my blog. I have also had great difficulty when I had updated my laptop to Windows 10 it had deleted some of my video files therefore I have not been able to get them back. Below is the video I used to be able to change Movie Maker to an mp4 file, thus making it large enough to add to Vimeo.


I had then had problems accessing the smaller videos I had prepared such as the shisha smoke and thr calligraphy for the title and credits. I will add these on too afterwards. However some of the scenes had been deleted from Windows 10 and therefore will need to add other scenes, this shouldn't take too long!

Tutorials

I had found these hair and makeup tutorials to really define my mise-en-scene more for costume rather than just props being used. I have many props to add to the production however, I would like to have more on the makeup and costume side of the props. In the 1920's costume and makeup were a large thing for females, you can see this on an earlier post named 'Research for OTS'. The below video is what I will use to create the rough 1920s hairdo that will be shown in my production, it is quick and simple and I can make it look scruffy as my femme fatale needs to be upset and almost drunk. This hairstyle will be perfect.




This below video I will use the simple makeup ideas as they are very sophisticated and elegant, yet very subtle. This works well with the period that it is made from. Both videos were very useful and I am glad that I decided to look on YouTube for short tutorials as these were very helpful in understanding the look needed to pull-off the time period.

Smoke Video

I have created a smoke video with two different devices: a shisha stick and a KangerTech vapouriser to determine which is the most creative yet realistic smoke to use for my photo shoots and production. However, I am finding it difficult to add to Vimeo because of the size of the file. I may have to ask my teacher for help to add it onto Vimeo or create a larger video size because otherwise I cannot add to my blog. I will try and get this sorted by the end of this week.

Sound Techniques

 

We have been challenged by our teacher to create some foleying techniques that we would use in our productions. As a class we watched the opening of Priest (in silence) and had written all the sound devices that we think we may have heard. When it came to watching it over again (this time with sound) we realised that there were so many more sound effects in the background that we would not have understood unless we could hear. The video below is showing a way in which foley artists are used in the media industry and one way that they add the sounds.


I found this extremely useful to watch as it gave me ideas in which I could create some foley sounds. The picture below is of the white board that we had written all the 45 sounds we had heard in the beginning of Priest. Our aim is to now create as many of these sounds as we can and attach to our blogs.

Here I have added a Prezi of my own to show different types of sounds and techniques. I have included definitions for all so that the audience can understand the vocabulary, as I found it tricky when I first discovered it.

Continuity Task Feedback

For the feedback of our video I have decided to create a Survey Monkey with a few short questions on to share through my blog and social media. These questions include about the camera and composition, lighting and props. Hopefully, after a few days we will start to see many results and so will be able to analyze them on our blogs through the use of screen grabs. We both understand that if we were to do it all over again there would be many improvements to make, however we would like to just get some quick feedback on the first video we edited and created together. Foleying

Foleying is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to film and video in post-production to enhance audio quality. These sounds can be anything from footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. Every film uses foleying especially animation as the videos are created with no sound, the sound and effects are added on top of the video afterwards. Therefore I have found a foleying example that is also one of my favourite films. This video below is of foleying directed in Toy Story, how they do it and the importance of foleying. Reflective comment:
I have never heard of foleying before and just thought that the sound effects on films and episodes were real. I would like to create a short video of making a sound effect without use of any software such as shooting the sound of a gun shot. I believe that foleying is extremely interesting and must be a skilful job. I would like to watch some more foleying videos on the technique and on some of my other favourite films too.

Media and Me

As a class we were given a challenge from our teacher to create a short presentation or vlog about what kinds of media we use and how we feel about them. I had decided to talk mostly about films I have watched and what are some of my favourites and video games that I have played from childhood until now. This was my first vlog so I wasn't very prepared and was nervous.

I had created this vlog in my bedroom however, I did wish to film outside but the weather at the time was awful. This vlog was created with a tripod and by using my Nikon DSLR 5200, I had edited and cut this vlog as it was originally sixteen minutes I did this on MovieMaker. Enjoy.

Reflective Comment:
I had great difficulty in adding this vimeo post on the blog and I don't know why it would not load, the page was just telling me the embed 'copy' was not correct, I believe this was my laptop as it works perfectly fine on school computers. As I add more vlogs and posts on my page I will discover the reason for this I am sure.
